Full-Time Life Skills Coach

About the role:

The Resident Life Skills Coach provides direct supervision, behavioral support, and life skills training to youth residing at The CALM Center.

This position supports implementation of individualized treatment and crisis plans in accordance with CARF Behavioral Health Residential Standards, ODMHSAS regulations, and CRSOK trauma-informed, recovery-oriented practices.

The Resident Life Skills Coach promotes a safe, structured, and therapeutic environment while supporting youth with emotional disorders, substance use disorders, and co-occurring conditions.

Responsibilities:

• Provide continuous supervision of residents consistent with treatment plans and safety protocols.
• Observe, document, and report behavioral and health-related symptoms.
• Assist with activities of daily living (ADLs) and daily goal achievement.
• Take and record vital signs as assigned.
• Maintain confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and CARF standards.
• Utilize verbal de-escalation and approved physical interventions per facility policy.
• Implement individual crisis plans and physician orders.
• Respond to suicidal ideation or threats of harm in accordance with established safety procedures.
• Maintain a safe, trauma-informed residential environment.
• Follow health and safety precautions.
• Perform light housekeeping duties per residential guidelines.
• Demonstrate professionalism, cultural responsiveness, and respect for family systems and diversity.
• Adhere to CARF standards related to documentation, safety, rights of persons served, and trauma-informed care.
• Maintain a commitment to Sanctuary Models seven commitments.

Candidate requirements:

• Minimum 60 hours of college coursework, OR
• Equivalent experience (up to 2 years) working with youth with complex emotional or behavioral needs.
• Understanding of childhood development, trauma, substance use, and suicide risk indicators.
• Ability to manage challenging behaviors and resolve conflict.
• Ability to document accurately and follow treatment plans.
• Ability to work effectively under pressure and accept supervision.
• Physical ability to safely respond in crisis situations.
