It is still a great time to start a conversation about mental health. Let’s continue mental health month into June and beyond.

Here are some facts, just shared by NAMI,  about mental health for children and teens:

  • 20% of youth have a mental health condition
  • 11% have a mood disorder
  • 10% have a mood or behavior disorder
  • 8% have an anxiety disorder
  • 50% of all mental illnesses begin by age 14

Life is too short to let any disease affect your quality of life at any age.  Help is as simple as calling us for an appointment or asking your primary care physician for a referral to a mental  health specialist.

If you know someone who is struggling, tell them that you care and want to help. Encourage them to make an appointment. You may have to encourage them more than once.

Share the good news that treatment for mental health issues is highly effective. Between 70 and 90 percent of individuals have significant reduction of symptoms and improved quality of life with a combination of medication and treatment.

Cancer, diabetes and other serious illnesses will not go away without treatment. Neither will mental health issues. Today is a great time to start recovery.
